While working at Scott Base Antarctica I ha the incredible opportunity to visit an Antarctic Dive Camp. This where very skilled diver/scientists from Niwa come to dive through a hole in the ice to study the sea floor below. The water in Antarctica is -1.8 degrees Celsius and the divers wear dry suits to keep warm. At this camp they were studying the effect of the sea ice on the life below the surface. They have been to this site many times over the years so they have a good set of data to work with now.
In Antarctica I work as a Field Trainer for Antarctica New Zealand. Basically I teach extreme outdoor survival skills to scientists, media and base staff. Often this job takes me away from Scott Base out to the field camps.
The dive camp is on the other side of McMurdo Sound from Scott Base so it takes a large team effort to get everything out there and set up.
To tell the rest of the story I put together a video
